Daily activity-Day 62

The 4 Ps:

Price: The price is the amount a customer pays for the product. The business may increase or decrease the price of product if other stores have the same product.

Promotion: Represents all of the communications that a marketer may use in the marketplace. Promotion has four distinct elements: advertisingpublic relationspersonal selling and sales promotion. A certain amount of crossover occurs when promotion uses the four principal elements together, which is common in film promotion. Advertising covers any communication that is paid for, from cinema commercials, radio and Internet adverts through print media and billboards. Public relations are where the communication is not directly paid for and includes press releases, sponsorship deals, exhibitions, conferences, seminars or trade fairs and events. Word of mouth is any apparently informal communication about the product by ordinary individuals, satisfied customers or people specifically engaged to create word of mouth momentum. Sales staff often plays an important role in word of mouth and Public Relations.

Product: It is a tangible good or an intangible service that is mass produced or manufactured on a large scale with a specific volume of units. Intangible products are service based like the tourism industry & the hotel industry or codes-based products like cellphone load and credits. Typical examples of a mass produced tangible object are the motor car and the disposable razor. A less obvious but ubiquitous mass produced service is a computer operating system. Packaging also needs to be taken into consideration. Every product is subject to a life-cycle including a growth phase followed by an eventual period of decline as the product approaches market saturation. To retain its competitiveness in the market, product differentiation is required and is one of the strategies to differentiate a product from its competitors.

PlacementA way of getting the product to the consumer and/or how easily accessible it is to consumers.

In recent years the four P's have been updated to include several more factors. Some people even go up to as many as 27 P's.

AIDA:

Attention: Attract the attention of the customer.

Interest: Raise customer interest by focusing on and demonstrating advantages and benefits (instead of focusing on features, as in traditional advertising).

Desire: Convince customers that they want and desire the product or service and that it will satisfy their needs.

Action: Lead customers towards taking action and/or purchasing.

I predict that candy and stuff will make the most profits because clothing is too expensive so a lot of people might not buy it, so even though candy is cheap, it could still generate more profits.

ADVERTISING NOTES.

What percentage of revenue comes from advertising and marketing?
Television-%100.

The largest group of consumers are young women between the ages of 12 and 24, because they don't pay rent and there are it's of things directed towards them. (Makeup, clothes, shoes, moisturizer, de-aging products)

Female teens spend 64 billion dollars a year in spending power.

Think about your client.

Advertising agencies do the creative and are the media buyers.

Facebook, televisions, radios, youtube and billboards are media. Media is important, hit it.

Advertising techniques:
1) Avante Garde
2) Facts and Figures
3) Weasel Words

Daily activity-Day 49

1) Planning-Planning is the basic function of management. It`s planning ahead; What needs to be done and when does it need to be done? It gets you from where you are to where you want to be.

2) Organizing-Organizing is deciding what is going to be done and how it`s going to be done. Organizing is making sure you have the tools to do it, as well. You have to identify what is being done in order to ensure you know what materials are needed.

4) Directing-Directing is making sure everything is being done right. Unlike controlling, it`s more about motivating and encouraging. It sets things in motion making it the "life-spark" of an enterprise.

5) Controlling-The purpose of controlling is to ensure everything is finished efficiently and within the guidelines. It can help get a problem spotted before the problem actually occurs.

The advantages of participative planning are that everything is already pre-planned, so there is less chance of problems occurring, and there is less time needed to plan as you go.

The disadvantages of participative planning are that if everything is planned out, then when the time comes to do something and it doesn`t work, you have to re-plan out everything.

Daily activity-Day 48

They don`t even motivate me.
If they were motivating me to do something, that would mean they convinced me it was a good idea to do it.
Usually, parents and teachers just say I`m going to do it.
That`s not motivating at all.
Just demanding.

Daily activity-Day 47

Band merch!
With any band-once the band is no longer popular, less people will buy merch. Anybody still interested in the band already owns it.
The longer and more places in which a band is popular, the more chances their will be people interested in buying merch.
In order to keep people buying merch, they need to keep making new things that people will want even if the band is no longer popular.

Daily activity-Day 45

Types of ads:
1) Commercial advertising
2) Television advertising
3) Radio advertising
4) Online advertising
5) Press advertising
6) Billboard advertising
7) Mobile billboard advertising
8) In-store advertising
9) Coffee cup advertising
10) Street advertising
11) Online advertising

Least favourite ad:
-Pending...the swiffer wetjet ad. It`s like...oh look, dirt can talk. Oh look, dirt is sad. Oh look, dirt just got raped. I don`t know why I hate it, I just do.

Favourite ad:
-My favourite ad-if this counts as an "ad"-is the one on Spike where it`s all mind screwy.

Good ad:
-Alchemy Partnership made an ad for Think Centre in Singapore. It was a puzzle and after you completed it, a piece of the child`s leg said "MISSING A PIECE?"

Bad ad:
-Old Sega advertisements in which half of them are awkward and one says if you...do...that...you`ll go blind... >.>

Wednesday, 9 November 2011

Daily activity-Day 44

My favourite ad was the third one, with the slide promoting Volkswagen because it would make people happy and because a giant red slide at what looked to be a train station is a bit out of place, people would try to figure out why it was built there, causing them to look for and find the ad, which is the whole point of having an ad in the first place. If Volkswagen had just put a sign that had that, people might not see it because they have no reason to look for it, like they do after they find the unmissable slide.

Daily activity-Day 43

I think they are right about generation Y because we have become more technological and we are more likely to believe what we read from our friends or on Facebook than we are to believe a commercial or even see a billboard.
I can use that information because it tells me how to reach my target market easier and not everyone else who I`m not even really trying to appeal to instead.

Business Proposal

It`s on Mark`s blog?

Daily activity-Day 42

-It teaches me that if you provide good customer service, your customers will most likely want to come back more.
-If you`re loyal to your customers then they learn they can rely on you and will always want you to serve them.
-If you relate to your customers, it will make them more comfortable with you and they`ll want you to serve them as a friend, as well.
-If the customer has a good experience when you serve them, they`ll want to come back and experience that again because everybody else just sucks.

Daily activity-Day 40

Is it possible for a business to be solvent but not profitable? Why or why not?

Yes, if they just have enough money to be solvent, but aren`t making any extras.

Wednesday, 2 November 2011

Daily activity-Day 39

-Current Assets: In accounting, a current asset is an asset on the balance sheet which can either be converted to cash or used to pay current liabilities within 12 months. Typical current assets include cash, cash equivalents, short-term investments, accounts receivable, inventory and the portion of prepaid liabilities which will be paid within a year.
-Investments: Investment has different meanings in finance and economics. Finance investment is putting money into something with the expectation of gain, that upon thorough analysis, has a high degree of security for the principal amount, as well as security of return, within an expected period of time. In contrast putting money into something with an expectation of gain without thorough analysis, without security of principal, and without security of return is speculation or gambling.
-Property, Plant and Equipment: A company asset that is vital to business operations but cannot be easily liquidated. The value of property, plant and equipment is typically depreciated over the estimated life of the asset, because even the longest-term assets become obsolete or useless after a period of time.
-Intangible Assets: Intangible assets are defined as identifiable non-monetary assets that cannot be seen, touched or physically measured, which are created through time and/or effort and that are identifiable as a separate asset. There are two primary forms of intangibles - legal intangibles (such as trade secrets (e.g., customer lists), copyrightspatents, and trademarks) and competitive intangibles (such as knowledge activities (know-howknowledge), collaboration activities, leverage activities, and structural activities). Legal intangibles are known under the generic term intellectual property and generate legal property rights defensible in a court of law. Competitive intangibles, whilst legally non-ownable, directly impact effectiveness, productivity, wastage, and opportunity costs within an organization - and therefore costs, revenues, customer service, satisfaction, market value, and share price. Human capital is the primary source of competitive intangibles for organizations today. Competitive intangibles are the source from which competitive advantage flows, or is destroyed. The area of finance that deals with intangible assets is known as Intangible Asset Finance.
-Other/total Assets: In financial accounting, assets are economic resources. Anything tangible or intangible that is capable of being owned or controlled to produce value and that is held to have positive economic value is considered an asset. Simply stated, assets represent ownership of value that can be converted into cash (although cash itself is also considered an asset).

Doubtful accounts?
-The combined amount of the debit balance in the current asset account Accounts Receivable and the credit balance in the contra asset account Allowance.

Accountants help managers organize and track their finances.
That would be the same as the above sentence.
1) Bookeeper.

Daily activity-Day 35

My favourite store is Mudawg because they sell band tees for decent bands and most stores don`t sell good band tees if any at all.
My favourite soft drink is Monster because it tastes amazing, gives me energy and is often on sale at stores near our school like 7-11.

Daily Activity-Day 34

What is working well with your group for this project?
Not too many things, if anything at all.

What do you wish would work better?
Everything, pretty much.

How can you work better?
By having realistic tasks assigned to me.

How can you encourage others to work better?
I can`t.

Daily activity-Day 31

He keeps jumping around from idea to idea and I couldn`t really keep up because it involved a lot of scientific stuff.
But about half ways through I realized that he wants to save energy and I realized also that what he`s talking about is actually rather genius.
It could work.

Daily activity-Day 30

I think he meant:
Everybody has different morals which means that not everybody is going to think the same thing is the right thing to do.
If you have to make a decision for a group,
you shouldn`t just assume that what you would do is the right thing to do for everybody,
because everybody has different beliefs,
values and morals.

Daily activity-Day 29

What do you do if

- Your friend asks you to add a few extra hours to a work time sheet for him, but you know that he did not put in the time.

Don't put the time in! That`s not fair.

- A salesperson in an electronics store offers to sell you an iPod after hours at a discounted price.
      Buy it. YOU won`t get in trouble, because YOU didn't know. (;

- You are aware that the teller gave you back too much money when completing a banking transaction.
Keep it, just say you didn`t bother counting. Extra money is awesome.

Wall Street questions

  • Who is Occupy Wallstreet about? Jobless protesters that are having financial difficulties, that want peace, equality among the different income classes and jobs or financial help so they can become equal to the richer income classes even if the poor and rich are still separated by such a large gap.
  • What happened? Jobless people that are having financial difficulties came together and set up protests to try and make a difference and create equality among rich and poor citizens.
  • Where did it take place? This is taking place on Wall Street in New York.
  • When did it take place? This is taking place currently.
  • Why did it happen? It happened because people got tired of being jobless and less important or of less value than the rich.
  • How did it happen? This happened with anger and determination because people got fed up with the way things were and became determined to start a change for the better.

Secrets of success in 8 words, 3 minutes

This was more boring then these TED talks usually are.
Usually I find these talks decently inspiring, but all he did was read a list of things without going into any detail and it didn`t inspire me at all...
He talked about things that would lead to "success".
Things like having ideas and pushing yourself to make them a reality.
Although he didn`t go into much detail so all I got was that if you can think of any idea, you`ll be successful so long as you or your mum try to get you to follow through with it, and that`s not true.
Sometimes ideas don`t work as well as you wanted and you`re not successful no matter how much you push yourself.

Daily activity-Day 21

Define it in your own words: Uhm...define advertising as it applies to magazines? I don`t know how to do that...or even what that means...to be completely honest. But I guess I could try...sorry if this answer relates nothing to the question. It`s good? It has to be...Advertising as it applies to magazines is appealing, informative and includes pictures.

Give examples of good advertisements: Most bands have people make them good posters and shit, Apple has good advertisements...silhouettes dancing are fantastic. Commercials with good looking food attract people, like Arby`s and Subway.

What facts or characteristics are true of good advertisements: They`re relatable and not boring...if they were boring, no one would pay any attention to them. They also have to say the price, item being advertised and any other important details so people know what it is they might buy, and how much it is.

Give examples of bad advertisements: McDonald`s because they don`t know math. If you have 4 people and they each pay $1, the total is $4...not $1...Also, perfume commercials are bad advertisements because I never understand what the ad is for until the end because it`s hard to use images and videos to advertise something you can`t see.

A: Energizing?

Q: What will it look like when you get there?

A: Hopefully good...

Company role assignment

VP of human resources and production. (=

Because that`s what I`m best at.

Daily activity-Day 19

  1. Set a positive example. If you don`t want the people following you to do something, don`t do it yourself. Only do things you`d expect other people to do as well. You`re a leader, that means others follow your example and if you`re not setting a positive one, then nobody else is going to be very positive, either.
  2. Make good decisions. If you`re going to be a leader, do your job. Don`t do what other people do, and don`t expect them to know what you should do. You should be able to make the decisions for yourself and others.
  3. Prioritize. You should know what needs to be done first and what can be done later. If you don`t, others won`t and then the important things might not get done.
  4. Be a good problem solver. If a problem occurs, somebody needs to be able to know what to do about it. If you can`t solve problems in general, you`re not going to have any better luck with this one and neither is anybody else. They let you lead because they believe you`re the best for the job, and they expect you to be able to solve any problems that might occur.
  5. Be able to set reasonable tasks that can be completed in a reasonable amount of time; in the order you`d want completed. Then help others to complete the tasks by leading and doing what you want done. The people you`re leading are there to HELP you, they can`t do what you want done if they don`t know what to do by example.

Daily activity-Day 17

I think she`s right and her facts seem accurate because there are not a lot of woman at the top. We tend to be more likely to do what we`re told rather then stepping forward and trying to do something on our own because of the way things have been done in the past.
If woman had more leadership roles I honestly don`t think much would change except that the lead may be followed by more gender equality at home as well as in the community in places such as schools.

We have competition?
I don`t think we do because we were gonna try and do it in the school and there is no one else doing this in the school that we know of so we SHOULDN`T have any competition. If we do, it should be easy to beat seeing as how I knew nothing of it.

Smart goal:
~We will ask the school office if we can advertise over the school PA on Wednesday because we need the school PA in order for this to work. The constraints we will have is time because we will be in class and our teachers might not let us out early to go and do this. The goal could be accomplished by asking the office staff about using the PA system, This seems worthwhile because we are providing a good service to the students of this school and we are able to have fun while doing it. This goal will end when we are done talking to the office staff and hopefully have their permission to use the PA system.~

Your Result

You're morally impaired! You are completely free from the burden of ethics and the only thing that keeps you from killing and stealing is the law and the fear of becoming a social outcast.

o.O ... i`m not afraid of becoming a social outcast )=

Daily activity-Day 9

Q: What can you take from this video (mgtatab) into your own work?

A: From this video, something I can take into thought with my own work is that not everybody thinks the same, because not everybody is the same. Something that is "perfect" to me, could be the worst thing ever to many other people, while I could think the same as them about something they find "perfect". When making/selling products it`s good to remember that not everybody will like it, just because you do, and to find out what other people do like to make a variety and get a larger amount of customers.

Thursday, 15 September 2011

Daily activity-Day 8

Q: What did you learn about team work from the last two assignments? What do you do well as a team member? Why is that important?

A: What I learnt from the last two assignments is that sometimes it`s hard to work with other people, but if everybody works together things do get done better. I do well as a team member because I bring up ideas to try and help, which is important because sometimes they do need help with thinking up ideas and stuff.

Wednesday, 14 September 2011

Daily activity-Day 7

Q: How do convincing speakers vary their speech when they speak for different purposes and to different people?

A: Convincing speakers vary their speech when they speak for different people by either speaking more casually for teenagers, speaking more professionally for professional people or speaking like they usually would for people in their age group.
Convincing speakers vary their speeches when they speak for different purposes because if they`re trying to get you to buy a product from them, they`re going to be more convincing about how "great" it is and trying to convince you to buy it than if they`re telling you about a product someone else is selling and they`re just promoting.

Business Fundamentals

Slide 1: IF I had to respond to this slide-the guy on top is an @$$. He should be no better than them, he`s only gonna bring himself down in the end because they`re all on "the same boat." If they sink, so does he.

Slide 2: Forprofit-McDonald`s because they keep all the money, nonprofit-Bill And Melinda Gates Foundation because they donate the profits to charity, notforprofit-SPCA because they use the profits to improve and expand the company and building for their animals.

Slide 3: I honestly don`t get this one...

Slide 4: The less you pay and the more the customers pay, the more profit you make. The more you pay and the less customers have to pay, the less profit you make, if any.

Slide 5: It could be expensive to come up with alternate sources, but if we don`t, we`ll be paying with our planet.

Slide 6: If the government does something, it should be right for everyone else, even if it usually isn`t because they don`t always necessarily follow the rules. They should lead by example, being the higher authority and all.

Slide 7: "The game of LIFE" because you use money and have a job, and a house, mortages, etc.
